Sensors

In order to provide peace-of-mind and confirmation of a normal, healthy routine, ElderWatch typically outfits your loved one or client's home with a variety of non-intrusive sensors and related hardware.

The most versatile type of sensor is the motion detector, which can be used to monitor movement in bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, outside doors, and more. With customized rules, motion detectors can provide valuable information without infringing upon privacy.

Sensors are available to measure vital wellness statistics such as weight, blood pressure, and pulse. With real-time information from simple sensors, caregivers be sure of their client or loved one's health at all times. Via a web interface, caregivers can view a history of these measurements to detect patterns, and the system can be automatically programmed to contact a caregiver if any reading is out of line.

Temperature sensors are used to detect issues within the house or provide weather information. A temperature sensor in a normal living room can determine whether heating or air conditioning equipment is working properly. A sensor in a kitchen can determine whether the stove or oven has been left on for too long.

Special light switches can be installed that can be programmed and controlled by the caretaker. These can automatically turn on lights at night, automatically provide safe path illumination in the event of an emergency, or, with additional control hardware, provide a "lived-in" look for a home while occupants are away by realistically toggling lights on and off.

New types of sensors are always in development. GrandCare Systems is investigating techniques such as sound recognition and electrical current monitoring as potential future options.
