FAQ for Current Customers
Pre-Sale Frequently Asked Questions
Q.) What does it cost?
A.) Most customers opt for leasing the system and depending on the features, functions, hardware and lease duration, the monthly payments can range from $200 to $350/month for a closed end lease where you will own the equipment at the end. A monthly server connection fee is required to allow your system to connect to the care-givers. Call for pricing. For those customers who desire to own the equipment out-right, we can provide a custom quote to cover the equipment and installation. Compared with the alternatives of assisted living, this is mere fraction and the payback can be as little as 2 months.
Q.) What geographic area do you serve?
A.) We are available for professional installation of GC-Como or GC-Express anywhere within the state of Michigan. For self-installation of GC-Express, we ship nationwide.
We can arrange installation of a GrandCare system for professional caregivers or assisted living centers anywhere in the country. Please contact us for details.
Q.) What if my mother doesn't like the idea of being "monitored" in her home?
A.) A solution by ElderWatch can provide peace-of-mind without being intrusive. It is not necessarily a "monitoring" system, simply a way to stay in touch and be alerted if a problem arises. For more information, see our privacy page.
Q.) Do ElderWatch solutions require much technical skill to use?
A.) After our professional installation, it is very easy for caregivers and seniors to use the system. Seniors only need to know how to watch television, and caregivers interact through the simple and streamlined user interface. No technical or computer knowledge is required.
Q.) As a professional caregiver, aren't your products competing with my business?
A.) ElderWatch provides solutions to compliment the human touch offered by professional caregivers. Technology cannot ever replace personal care, and our solutions are designed to improve service and reduce costs associated with being a caregiver. By allowing 24/7 access to key information about clients, ElderWatch products allow caregivers to be more efficient by eliminating guesswork from care.
Q.) Why am I having trouble logging into the website?
A.) Double-check the username and password provided during installation. Remember, usernames and passwords are case-sensitive.
It is possible that you are already logged in. If you see a "log out" button, then you are logged in already and the user interface is being stopped by a popup-blocking program. To allow the interface to appear, follow these instructions:
In Internet Explorer, find "Pop-up Blocker" under the Tools menu. Add "www.grandcare.com" to the list of approved sites.
In Firefox, find "Options" under the Tools menu. Click on "allowed sites" and add "www.grandcare.com" to the list.
Q.) My "No Motion" rule does not work as expected?
A.) I want to set a rule that says from 12:00pm to 6:00pm if there is no motion at the fridge then call me.
When I go to set the rule, after I put in my limits of 12:00pm and 6:00pm it asks "for __days, for ___ hours, for ___minutes". Intuitively you may think that you need to enter in the time defined between your two limits. In this case it is 6 hours. That will not give you the desired behavior. In order to get the behavior you desire from the rule stated above you need to make sure that the rule says "for 0 days, for 0 hours, for 0 minutes". I have presented an example in an attached picture.
If you set the rule as the following:
If NO MOTION at BATHROOM NEAR SINK between 12:00 PM and 6:00PM for 0 Days, 6 hours, and 0 minutes then... send alert.
it will behave in the following. Once 12:00pm hits the system will ask itself "how long has it been since the last motion at BATHROOM NEAR SINK?" If that time is at 6 hours or longer then "send alert". Every minute from 12:00pm to 6:00pm it asks itself, "has it been six hours since the last motion at BATHROOM NEAR SINK?" Once it answers yes, it will send the alert. Every minute since it sent the alert, it will ask itself "Starting my counting at the time of the last alert, has it been 6 hours since the last motion at BATHROOM NEAR SINK?"
If you set the rule as the following:
If NO MOTION at BATHROOM NEAR SINK between 12:00 PM and 6:00PM for 0 Days, 1 hours, and 0 minutes then... send alert.
And if there is no motion at BATHROOM NEAR SINK since 11:00am and there is no motion from 12:00pm to 6:00pm then you will recieve an alert at 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm... and every hour until the time is later than 6:00PM.
